AJAX

There were a total of 12 Ajax figures released as part of the Dutch Staatsloterij range of Headliners. The figures were released sporadically over a 2 year period, however unlike the other 2 Dutch clubs in this range, the kit remained the same for both seasons.

A star studded range featuring both De Boer brothers, this would turn out to be the only Corinthian release of Frank De Boer, while Ronald would appear later in the ProStars range.

 

 

Marc Overmars, Edwin Van Der Sar, Jari Litmanen and Michael Laudrup would also feature again in the ProStars range, however the rest of the figures would make this solitary appearance.

Richard Witschge, Danny Blind, Tijani Babangida, Dani and Mariano Juan would never again be released by Corinthian.

The stand out figure from Ajax is of course that of no nonsense centre back Winston Bogarde, with his figure ranking amongst the very rarest of all Headliners. He was intended to be released in sachet along with the rest but his figure was pulled from the range, however a sealed sachet version of him does exist! A huge thank you to Corinthian collecting legend Lennart Van Der Winkel for providing me the image of Bogarde in sealed sachet, to the best of our knowledge this is the only version in existence!

Corinthian did have a very limited number of Bogarde in clear sachet on sale at the Convention, however they were soon snapped up by collector's and his figure is seldom seen for sale today and can trade hands for very good money.

All were released as a clear sachet, however no collector cards were produced. There are variations in the sachet, some feature different text but they are essentially the same product.

 

 

There was also a 4 figure pack released. The 4 packs in this range are unique in their appearance, they are 4 figures placed on a flimsy backing card and then covered over in a thin film of plastic. The 4 packs are rare but do appear for sale from time to time.
